WRL is looking for a Spring 2014 Bilezikian Organizing Intern!
Want to hone or share your organizing skills? Want to work with one of the oldest and most exciting anti-war and anti-militarism organizations? We are currently taking applications for our Spring 2014 Bilezikian Internship Program, which runs for 13 weeks starting Monday, March 10th. Application deadline: Friday, February 21st.
Our intern will work 20 hours a week on a number of organizing projects and administrative tasks. They will work in close collaboration with Organizing Coordinator Kimber Heinz and Field Organizer Ali Issa, primarily on the development of WRL’s campaign against tear gas and police militarization. They will also play a key role in updating our counter-military recruitment resources.
Among the specific tasks to be completed are to:
- Research corporations, government and police involvement, and other players involved in the militarization of police in the US in a few key regional sites where police-military training is heavily funded and prioritized, as part of the Facing Tear Gas campaign.
- Find, record, and compile personal narratives and do research for a substantial update to the popular WRL counter-military recruitment leaflet, “What Every Girl Should Know.”
- Research federal funds used to support the militarization of local police forces as part of WRL’s participation in the 2014 Global Day of Action on Military Spending.
- Assist WRL national organizers with creating media about WRL organizing, including blog postings, emails, a print newsletter, and videos.
- Help to monitor and update our various social networking sites, including Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.
The Bilezikian Internship is an opportunity for younger people to become involved with a variety of tasks key to the work of a national antiwar organization and to develop their leadership. Applicants with experience in organizing, popular education/training, and campaign work are especially encouraged to apply. Web and design skills are a plus. There is a stipend provided($2,600) and WRL will work with those who can receive college credit. WRL may be able to assist interns coming from outside of NYC with finding housing.
