War Resisters League is seeking a conference organizer for our 90th Anniversary Conference to take place August 1-4 at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
Revolutionary Nonviolence: Building Bridges across Generations and Communities will bring together WRL members from around the country as well as allies and other interested people. While celebrating WRL's 90th anniversary, we have chosen to be in Washington in the same month as the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. We hope that up to 200 participants will attend – possibly more for a special session.
The organizer will coordinate the work of the Conference Committee, coordinate with the Georgetown Justice and Peace Program and intern, and be supervised by the 90th Anniversary Co-Chairs who are active members of the committee. Coordination includes promotion and outreach, logistics, assistance with speakers, etc. The organizer can be based in either the New York City or Washington D.C. areas. A few trips to the conference venue before the conference may be needed; the conference organizer needs to be in Washington for the 7 – 10 day period before and during the conference. Work can begin as early as late-March (beginning no later than April 1st), and will go through conference follow-up tasks to be completed in August.
Conference organizing experience is required, the conference organizer will work on a consultancy basis with generous hourly compensation.
Please send a brief cover letter, resume, and three references to jobs [at] warresisters.org with 'Conference Organizer' in the subject line. The deadline is March 11th, 2013.
