Celebration of the World March for Peace
Wednesday, December 2, 6:30 p.m. – Reidy Friendship Hall
The World March for Peace - which WRL has endorsed - is taking place in 100 countries and 300 cities from October 2, 2009 through January 2, 2010. On November 30, the international team of marchers is scheduled to arrive in New York and December 2 has been designated “National World March Day” with events scheduled in all fifty states.
The celebration will include:
• Sing-along of peace songs led by the All Souls Song-Fest
• Poetry readings by Phoebe Hoss, Howard Pflanzer and Eliot Katz
• Russell Branca jazz trio with Heather Bennett, piano; Sylvia Cuenca, drums; and Russell Branca, bass
• Speakers who will share their actions for local and global peace and non-violence,
including a representative from the World March organization; Bruce Knotts, Director of the UU/United Nations Office, Guy Quinlan of the Nuclear Disarmament Task Force, and representatives of other groups
• Dance
• Food and beverages
The evening will be a coming together of creative energies to imagine One World where we live as brothers and sisters. We look forward to your participation in the celebration of peace!
Co-sponsors confirmed include the UU/UN Office, GreenSouls, Task Force on Nuclear Disarmament, Peace Action of New York State, Resistance Cinema, Granny Peace Brigade, Fellowship of Reconciliation, Metro New York Religious Campaign Against Torture, Code Pink, and War Resisters League. Other groups have been invited.
