In Memoriam: Toshi-Aline Ohta Seeger, 1922-2013

The staff, board, and membership of the War Resisters League observe with deep sorrow the death of Toshi Seeger on July 9. The world is a little dimmer without Toshi Seeger. We all have a share in her family’s grief.

90 Years Young!

War Resisters League is proud to have reached our 90th anniversary and we have had a great celebration all year.

In August, we held our 90th Anniversary conference, REVOLUTIONARY NONVIOLENCE: Building Bridges Across Generations and Communities in Washington, DC.

WRL Pie Chart Resources for Educators and Activists!

In collaboration with the Toolbox for Education and Social Action (TESA), WRL recently released exciting new educational resources from role plays to handouts to conversation starters to group activities--designed to help you put the WRL Tax Day Pie Chart flyer into practice, whether on the street as you hand it out, in community groups, or in classrooms.

Dannia Southerland, 1950- 2013

Dannia Southerland, 62, passed away on February 9, 2013 in Durham, NC. Dannia, who went by Sunshine at the time, was on the WRL/Southeast staff from 1978 until 1984.

A strong woman with a strong presence, Sunshine had a great smile and ability to raise important issues and challenge us all. Mab Segrest wrote about Dannia in her book Memoir of a Race Traitor. Mab wrote of Dannia’s early activism organizing the first Gay Pride march in North Carolina in 1980 and that “the women’s peace movement and War Resisters League helped expand my understanding.”
